The Starlite Theatre
The 2009 Rankin Brothers - Classic Music Revue made its debut on 16 March to a packed house in their beautiful new venue, the Starlite Theatre right on the Hwy 76 strip. Expectations were high; after all they were awarded Best Duo Act, Best Male Entertainer and Best New Show of 2008. Would they keep the 2008 show intact? Would they dare venture away from proven success to incorporate new material into the show?
Some of the favorites from 2008 have been retained; e.g., the Righteous Brothers 1965 hit, “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feelin’,” the Tokens’, “The Lion Sleeps Tonight,” Chuck Berry’s, “Johnny B. Goode,” etc. What makes their show such a big hit is that they perform songs the way the original artists performed them. Going all the way back to the ‘50’s, the Rankin Brothers bring back memories and emotions as they recreate the authentic sounds of the times.
The 2009 show is filled with surprises of new songs and artists like Herman’s Hermits, the Beach Boys, George Strait, and Willie Nelson just to name a few. The superb band also provides more support this year on vocals and the beautiful Rankinettes are featured more in individual solo numbers as well as their group and backup vocals.
There is so much talent in this show it is difficult to single out any one performance. Just as you think it can’t get any better they kick off another memorable song that brings on a big smile. The audience received the debut of the 2009 show eagerly and responded with four standing ovations throughout the evening.
It is particularly interesting hear the audience at the end of the show trying to recall all the songs they heard during the last two hours. Everyone has their own favorites but they all agree they had just witnessed a superb performance by exceptionally talented brothers, backup singers, and musicians. As they did last year, the Rankin Brothers and the Rankinettes do a meet and greet in the lobby after the show where every fan has the opportunity to get autographs, take pictures, shake hands or receive a warm hug.
The Starlite Theatre is located on Hwy 76 just east of the Titanic. The venue has a capacity of 900 and the comfortable seats have built-in drink holders. There are no steps to navigate between the level parking lot and the auditorium. Restrooms are easily accessed and are located on each side of the box office.
