HAMNER-BARBER

March 31, 2009

You are in for a real treat the moment you step into the lobby of the Hamner-Barbara Theater. Before the show even starts and you are seated in the audience, there is a gathering in the lobby where the art of magic is demonstrated up close and personal.  Dave Hamner tells us that he has been doing magic since the age of eight and his perfection and joy in the craft is certainly evident.

This was one of the absolute BEST magic and ventriloquism shows I have ever experienced.

The illusions were top notch and Barber is an excellent ventriloquist. The Macaws and Cockatoos were the most amazing illusions. Also, the 'death defying' illusion was Superb!

The comedy was wonderful. I don't think I've laughed that hard in years, and when Barber brought the man from the audience up on stage and had him play the part to the 'dummy', that was hilarious.

The grand finale was a real surprise. As a U.S. veteran I have never seen a more moving tribute to our veterans. It was enough to bring tears to my eyes!!

Thank you, Hamner and Barber for a very funny and moving show.

We'll be back for sure.

I have taken all my friends and family to the Hamner Barber show and EVERYBODY has loved the entire show.

People love Jim's skits.  People were laughing about them all the way home.  My girlfriend wasn't too interested in seeing a magic show (she had been disappointed at another show down the road) but I talked her into going.  She said her face hurt from laughing so much.

She was amazed when he came out and SANG.  He can not only do comedy but he can sing very well.  She was amazed that Mr Hamner could sing also.  She thought he was just magic but they both have a very nice singing voice.

Jim Barber from the Hamner-Barber Variety Show is an excellent performer, comedian, and ventriloquist.  He has won many awards for his comedy over the years and it is no wonder why.  We went to the Hamner-Barber show for the first time last week.  We enjoyed ourselves tremendously.

Jim comes out with several puppets as part of his act.  They include a baby, a Chihuahua, a monkey and his fist puppet he used, “Seever” I believe was the name. Seever is his opening act.  He came out and the puppet’s head was placed where his was suppose to be and his head was where the puppet’s was suppose to be.  It sounds weird, but you have to see it for yourself to get what I am saying.  (They do not allow photography so I was unable to get any pictures of this.)

His ventriloquist ability is something you have to see for yourself.  He can manage several voices and switch back and forth flawlessly making you wonder how in the world he does that with out breaking character.  I would recommend this show to anyone.
