Fans' Choice Award Best Morning Show - Rocky Mountain High
October 30th, 2009, 10AM
For the third year in a row, Chad Ray walked on stage to present James Garrett and the show cast with the Fan Award for Best Morning Show in Branson. Four editors snapped photos as the audience clapped. James invited all his guest performers on the stage for the presentation. He acknowledged Fay, a 90+ year-old fan who attended the show to see him receive the awards.
Five Branson Critic staff members attended James Garrett’s John Denver Tribute Show on 18 November 2008. Following an enjoyable first half of classic John Denver music, James invited Chad Ray to the stage. Representing all of the fans who participated in the 2008 nomination/voting process and the Branson Critic editorial staff, Chad explained the award selection process to the audience. He then invited IMAX owner, Paul Bluto, and the rest of the IMAX management team, and all of the show cast members to the stage. After sharing several quotes written by fans who love this show Chad presented the Best Morning Show Award to the John Denver Tribute Show for the second consecutive year.

Tribute To John Denver
Little Opry Theatre
I have been a fan of John Denver since he replaced Chad Mitchell of The Chad Mitchell Trio in the 1960’s. So it goes without saying, that this was a show that my wife and I were going to see on our recent trip to Branson.
We had ordered tickets online for other shows before our trip, for big names like The Nitty Dirty Grit Band, Yakov Smirnoff and Shoji Tabuchi, among others. We got our tickets for James Garrett’s tribute show to John Denver the first morning we went there on Thursday, Oct. 22, 2009.
As far, as I am personally concerned, the “Tribute To John Denver” show led by the great and wonderful James Garrett was the most enjoyable and best show that we saw in the week we were in Branson. And we saw 7 shows in all. We ended up seeing this show twice (see below).
The intimacy of The Little Opry Theatre lent itself to a feel that you cannot get in any other show. It is only 5 rows deep, so you are never far from the stage and all of the musicians. The acoustics sound and staging is just right for this show. The audience is welcomed to get involved and interact with the performers, which does not happen at any other show that we saw.
Most importantly, James Garrett does fantastic work singing and playing the songs that John Denver wrote and also sharing great stories about his relationship and friendship with John Denver. Besides playing a lot of big hits that John had, he also includes many not so well-known ones. It was priceless! We ended up purchasing the two CDs that he recorded and I have listened to each several times since we came back home two weeks ago; including on my iPod Touch.
The two backup musicians that played with James, Randy Plummer and Jim Glaspy, were first rate and added so much to the show. If you love music, as much as I do, you will appreciate their talents just as much as James Garrett’s musical talent and singing.
The first show we saw ended up lasting almost three hours. After the show, as we met all of the performers, got their autographs and got some pictures, after telling James how much I loved what he did, I also told him how I wish that he sang certain other songs. He asked me what songs I had in mind. I mentioned three to him: “My Sweet Lady”, “The Eagle and the Hawk” and “Annie’s Other Song”. He told me that if we came back the next morning, he would try to include them into that show. I said that would be great and that we would come back the next morning.
On Friday, Oct. 23, 2009, the show only lasted just over two hours, as there was a large bus tour group that was on a tight schedule. After doing numerous songs, James looked at me and mentioned to the audience that he had a request for some songs from me the day before. After explaining how hard it was for him and for Jim Glaspy to try to do “The Eagle and the Hawk”, they all did it so well that I gave them a standing ovation afterwards. Later on he also did a great job on “My Sweet Lady”. We enjoyed the 2nd show just as much as the first, even though we heard some of the same songs and similar dialog from the day before.
I understand that a week after we saw these shows, that it was awarded the best morning show for the third year in a row. That is great news! As far as I am concerned, it should be named the best show in Branson, period.
Do not miss this when you come to Branson!!!

Tribute to John Denver
IMAX
As a long-time fan of John Denver, I was anxious to see how James Garrett would pay tribute to John in his show. He did a wonderful job of honoring --not imitating-- John's memory by singing many of his songs beautifully and with sincerity, and telling interesting anecdotes about John. James not only has a great voice and personality but also has surrounded himself with talented people--Randy Plummer, Katrina, who does Patsy Kline songs, C.J. Newsom, and a marvelous guitar and banjo player. It all makes for a marvelous show! In addition, the theatre is small, allowing an intimacy with the audience that I hadn't experienced anywhere else in Branson. Audience members were able to make comments during the show and make song requests which James was happy to sing. I will definitely see the show again when I return to Branson.

Tribute to John Denver
Imax
After a week in Branson, we finally made it over to a show that I'd been hearing about all week--the Tribute to John Denver at the IMAX. I live in a city where spectacular and over-the-top show productions are part of the culture. The talent of James Garrett and his band members are every bit as good as any I've seen in Vegas and certainly the best of what I saw in Branson this past week. Whether you're a John Denver fan or not, you have to agree that James' tribute to such a great songwriter is one of the finest you will ever see. He and his band members are obviously genuine in their love for what they do and the talent is incredible. Jim Glaspy as the national dobro champ and Texas bluegrass guitar champion is unbelievable on the banjo when he and James played Dueling Banjos. The bass player, Kelly Black, is doing a great job filling in for the regular band member, Randy Plummer. Karina and CJ round out the show with their spot-on harmony vocals. I loved it when CJ sang Cowboy Sweetheart and when Karina sang Patsy Cline. James Garrett obviously has a gift for not only surrounding himself with great talent, but for performing Denver's music with passion and for making an audience feel at home. He exudes the same charisma as John did, which makes for a memorable concert experience. I saw John in concert back in the early 80's and I haven't felt the connection to an artist since then until today. I understand this show has won Best Morning Show in Branson for two years running and in my opinion deserves to win it again. I say, put it on the top of your list! Not a bad way to start or even finish off your visit to Branson.

James Garrett's Tribute to John Denver
IMAX Little Opry Theater
I attended the Tribute to John Denver by James Garrett June 17, 2009. It was a great experience. James makes everyone feel special. I'm ninety years old and he always recognizes me and sings my favorite song, "Some Days are Diamonds". I noticed that when a person is mentally challenged, he pays special attention to that one. This makes the person feel really special. His soothing voice and pleasant manner make everyone relax and enjoy the humor, music, and songs. I've seen several of the shows in Branson, but James' tribute is my favorite. Each show is different, there is no set script, and the audience sometimes dictates the show. This is done by the requests made after intermission. The audience keeps asking for more, thus the show seldom ends in two hours.
I've been listening to James sing and play since he was a teenager. After sitting in my brother's living room all those years ago enjoying James' talent, I am extremely proud of his accomplishments and success. I vote for his show to receive the Best Morning Show for the third time.

Rocky Mountain High..Tribute to John Denver
I-Max Live Theater
First of all, I'm a great John Denver fan (God rest his soul) and am a severe critic in reviewing anyone who attempts to imitate the magic he brought with his music and especially in his live performances. However, in this show's case, I can only give praise and thanks that a man with seemingly equal performing talent to Mr. Denver is headlining this show. In addition, like Denver, Mr. Garrett seemed to be able to convey a gentle, positive attitude throughout the show. His voice soared where Denver's soared. His instrumental ability and versatility were excellent. In addition, although I must confess, I saw Mr. Denver perform solo in the round; I was gratified with the ensemble that Mr. Garrett has assembled. The banjo/dobro player especially seemed to be of the same high caliber as Mr. Garrett. I believe his name was Glaspy. The base player was solid throughout and a young lady, at least from the perspective of my age, nearly broke my heart with her rendition of Three Wooden Crosses. Frankly, I tell all my friends that if you want to see the Best of Branson, you'd better get up early and prepare for the highlight of your visit when you see this show. I know it should easily be the best 10 am show but I would also nominate it for the best overall show. Thank you.

A Tribute to John Denver
IMAX
It takes a bit to impress me when it comes to entertainment. With the American Idol hoopla and celebrity handlers pushing their money-making robots in our faces across the country, I get a little hard-to-please, living amongst the fast-paced Hollywood, southern California culture. Being that I was raised a good ol' country boy myself back in Texas and spent the majority of the 70's enjoying a bit of my own rocky mountain high, I must admit, when my friends and family insisted we check out the Tribute to John Denver Show, I was slightly skeptical of how long I'd be able to fake my way through the show without pulling out the old standby, "oops sorry, gotta take this call, see you guys outside when it's over". Boy, did I get pie in the face! I'm a pilot and vice-president of a multi-million dollar organization and fly worldwide, seeing every sort of show and entertainment venue from Broadway to Hong Kong. If someone had walked up to me and bet me my pilot's license I would watch a young man named James Garret perform a tribute show to John Denver and keep me in my seat the length of the show, I just may have taken him up on it. One of the songs me and my pilot buddies like to play before a day of flying is play 'Rocky Mountain High' and various other Denver songs as we prepare the planes for lift off. Keep in mind, flying is my passion next to music; quality, well-written, well sung music. Since the night I attended the James Garrett Show back in July for my big 50th birthday weekend, my family and I make sure to recommend it to friends and other family. Over the Labor Day weekend, some of my family from Ohio and Texas met up in Branson just to check out the show because of all the stories of our weekend there in July. They, of course, tell me they had one of the best weekends and the Ohio group is talking now about getting together a family reunion over Thanksgiving for the whole family to meet in Branson. First on the list, we have to make some calls to see if we are able to block off 45-55 seats for one of the morning shows. I don't know much about these guys, the whole group of performers, but I would bet my pilot's license they'll soon be chasing of the 'Hollywood Handlers' with a guitar strummed by this young man called James Garrett. Look for him soon on one of those Country Music Awards Shows, hands down! What a talent...

A Tribute to John Denver
Little Opry Theatre, IMAX
In January of 2007, I had the unique experience of seeing the new John Denver Tribute Show at the Little Opry Theater in the IMAX Complex. It was in its infancy, yet totally amazing. Being a John Denver fan, I was elated that someone with talent and personal knowledge of John intended to pay tribute to him. I have been blessed to watch the show mature over the last 2 1/2 years. It just keeps getting better. James Garrett is a phenomenal, sincere entertainer who is doing what he loves and loving what he does.
James loves singing John Denver. Close your eyes and you think you‚re listening to John‚s guitar. Both his vocals and guitar are simply masterful. James will entertain you with stories about John and his songs. Even if you are not a John Denver fan, you will be impressed with the insight into the man, the quality of his lyrics, and the beauty of his music. James makes it all come alive. You come away from the show impressed with the man who was John Denver and impressed with the man who so eloquently pays tribute to him.
James surrounds himself with some of the best musicians in town. Randy Plummer, Jim Glaspy, CJ Newsom. And, he allows each one to shine in the spotlight during the show. He loves working in a theater where the audience is comfortable talking to him, asking him questions. You really get the feeling you‚re in a living room, enjoying the company and music of good friends.
I never grew tired of seeing John in concert, and I never grow tired of seeing James perform his songs. James does his show six days a week from February through mid-December. Each show is different because he allows the audience to dictate the flow of the show and the songs. You will hear the hit songs, and the lesser-known songs. You will be invited to sing along. You will be asked to make requests. You will laugh, and some of you will cry. For sure, you will be so glad you started your day with this show. A Tribute to John Denver IS the Best Morning Show in Branson.

Tribute to John Denver
IMAX Little Theatre
I visited Branson for the first time in August with my sister and was encouraged to attend the John Denver Tribute Show. I‚m so glad I did. This show is in the small Little Opry Theater in the IMAX and I have never had the opportunity before to sit so close to the entertainers. James Garrett sings the John Denver songs and he sang all my favorites, including my all-time favorite, "Calypso". He sang a couple of songs I had never heard before, "Whispering Jesse" and "Me and My Uncle". He calls those "gems". I agree with him that those songs are just as good as the hits.
James Garrett tells stories about John. I loved the stories. They gave me insight into the type of person John Denver was. I was impressed with the band and all the individual talent on the little stage. Jim Glaspy is an amazing musician. On the day I was there, I got to hear James and Jim perform "Dueling Banjos". Sitting as close as I was, I could see how fast Jim‚s fingers move on his banjo. James did a good job of keeping up with him on the guitar.
There is so much to this show; I can see why it has been awarded Best Morning Show: Denver songs, stories, bluegrass, gospel, and humor. This show is wholesome, pure talent, without special effects. This show, itself, is a "gem".

John Denver Tribute
Little Opry Theater
I saw this show yesterday and loved it. My wife and I decided to catch the show again as we have seen it many times before and always find something a little different in each performance. I probably wouldn't have reviewed the show again except today’s performance was completely different this time around. James Garrett, the star of a Tribute To John Denver, said that when he has buses in his audience, he changes the show a little more than usual. After he explained, it made sense. He said that the tour companies decide which shows their customers see. He figures a small percentage are actually big John Denver fans so he ads some songs from different artists to the mix. Somehow, Garrett makes each song relevant to the context of the show. Karina Glaspy and James sang, "Heaven's Just a Sin Away", to a rousing round of applause. James played guitar and sang with the Kendalls. When Royce Kendall passed away in 1998, Jeannie Kendall asked James if he would step up to sing her father's parts. Turns out the Kendalls recorded one of John's songs, "Leaving on a Jet Plane".
The John Denver hits people expect to hear were played and were great as always. Jim Glaspy played a song I had never heard before. He said it was a flop for Willie Nelson. I think the song was "A Song For Mary". I really enjoyed Jim's performance. His guitar, banjo, and dobro playing was top notch as usual. It's interesting to note that James and his band are able to conform to any situation that comes along. If a phone rings during the show, James simply makes it part of the show! Jim and Karina Glaspy, C. J. Newsome, and newcomer Kelly Black make a winning combination. I'm told Randy Plummer will be back in a few weeks. He is also great in the show.
I think it's great that they always recognize the veterans in a very honest and dignified way. They also give thanks to lord for their blessings in every show by singing some great gospel songs. I love the song James sings, "Praise His Name". Karina and Jim sang a bluegrass gospel song that they wrote called "In His Presence". It was inspired, as is the show.

James Garrett's Tribute to John Denver
IMAX Little Opry Theater
In attending James Garrett's John Denver Tribute Show, one is reminded of God's blessings in our daily walks of life. James is not reluctant to praise God for His blessings and guidance. It is good to see entertainers who acknowledge God. To me, this helps create a pleasant atmosphere. I think James' gospel songs such as "Praise His Name" and his sharing of what God has done in his life remind most of us of God's grace and blessings. It is also encouragement to some people who are sad, depressed, or feeling hopeless. Some people are truly touched and encouraged by this type of environment. I vote for this show to receive Best Morning Show.

John Denver Show
IMAX Little Opry Theatre
I had the privilege of attending James Garrett's John Denver Tribute Show. I was very impressed by the skill and talent of the members of the cast. I feel that this particular show truly stands out from others I have seen in Branson, because all of the members are extraordinary musicians who perform with integrity. I feel that the John Denver show is so much more than a "show". As a musician, I find it refreshing to attend a show where true musical talent is displayed and tribute is paid to an unforgettable songwriter. My favorite song is "Calypso" which gracefully showcases the surprising voice of James. The seating in the theater made me feel like I was sitting in James' living room just listening and enjoying music. It had a cozy feel and we were so close to the performers. He made you feel at home and everyone in the audience feels like they are part of the show. Soon you feel like you're family with the audience and the cast, especially after sharing laugh after laugh through songs like "Poor Boy Boogie".
I would definitely make a return trip to Branson just to see his show. Branson has never interested me before, but this show has made a believer out of me. I vote for this show to receive Best Morning Show.

Rocky Mountain High - A tribute to John Denver
IMax
I am 13 and my dad takes me to Branson fairly often. Usually on a weekend when my friends have something big planned. Sooooo this time, when he told we'd be seeing this show, I hid my I-pod in my pockets in preparation. Fortunately actually, he caught me and made me listen to the show. It was really great. The songs, most of which I've never heard, were really well done. The main performer rocked and there was a sweet looking girl singer that actually caught me off guard with the emotion she put in her song. Anyway, I actually thanked Dad for taking me and meant it. When I got back to school, I actually told my friends about going and how great it was. Hope it gets the best award for it was great. The other performers were really fine too.

James Garret's A Tribut to John Denver Show
IMAX
I don't really remember a show that I enjoyed so much; my family and I didn't want it to end. We actually went two mornings in a row. James Garret and his crew of talented performers really surprised us with their stories and renditions of classic John Denver songs. Time is short and money is even shorter on little get always to Branson. We've been to Branson four times in the past couple years and get a little picky on where to spend our dollars. Never did we even realize the promise of a fun-packed time we'd have in that little theatre, or we'd have seen that show on the first, second, third and future visits! I don't know how a voice like James Garrett's hasn't been picked up by Nashville or whoever finds these talents. Someone needs to sign this boy up and get him on the radio. Funny personality and funnier group of people on that stage, just genuine, good times. Everyone should make their way to Branson at some point to see the show, before they get discovered and moved on to higher priced venues. I know I'll be there to tell people, I knew 'em when! Check it out!!

Tribute to John Denver
IMAX, Little Opry Theater
I was fortunate enough to be back in Branson the week of June 15th and was excited to have the opportunity to see James Garrett and his band in the Tribute to John Denver show. Little did I know the extra treat I was in for the day I went--Steve Weisberg, a former John Denver band member, was there sharing the stage. His and James' renditions of John Denver classics were incredible and even though the show went longer than the 2 hour time slot, I still wanted to hear more. I've seen this show a number of times since it's been at the Little Opry theater and it's always different--that's the charm and attraction of the show. Two things do remain the same. One is the talent of James Garrett and his love for John Denver's music along with his lovely ability to sing Denver's music with true heart and soul. Second is the wonderful talent of his band members, Randy Plummber, Jim and Karina Glaspy, and CJ Newsom. The stories James shares about the songs and the obvious fun the
band has performing together make this show a sheer pleasure and a must-see in Branson. The IMAX theater complex is a great place to go to a show--in addition to the live shows in the Little Opry theater, you can catch a movie (regular screen or the giant IMAX one), have breakfast, lunch and dinner at McFarlain's (great home-cooked meals), shop and have some of the best fudge in town. But I highly recommend the Tribute to John Denver show as the #1 attraction there.
A Rocky Mountain High
By: Kurt L. Moore
The first night James Garrett was to perform at the Imax Theater, he grouped the other players in the show around him and told them, "We probably are not going to win any awards playing in a 200 seat theater, but we are going out there, put on a show and have a lot of fun doing it." He was right on half of that prophecy.
They did put on a show that night and had a lot of fun doing it. James Garrett and his group have been at the Imax's Little Opry Theater for going on their third year and each of the first two years that same show has managed to garner the Branson Critic Award for Best Morning Show in Branson.
James says he has the littlest band in Branson, playing in the littlest theater in Branson. He is right on both counts. But oh my gosh, what that group can do in that little theater. Folks whatever I am about to tell you, you will not believe until you go see for yourself. The times I have been there, the theater was nearly standing room only with people traveling literally hundreds of miles just to see his show.
James Garrett has one of the finest tribute shows I have had the pleasure of seeing in Branson. He pays tribute to John Henry Deutschendorfwho you say? John Denver, that’s who. The same man who wrote 146 songs with one of them, “Rocky Mountain High,” being enacted as the Colorado State Song.
James spent a lot of time in past years with John Denver and is the ultimate knowledge base for anything to do with him. He also is very careful not to detract from Denver’s songs and does them as the master himself would have done. I have to say, he does a marvelous job.
OK, I have seen a lot of tribute shows and by the time I saw his show the second time realized why it is so well received by audiences. Even though there is money involved with any show in Branson, including this one, they are not in it for the money. When putting on this show they are at play. They are having fun and it shows. It is catchy and the audience dives right in on the fun. Even though James Garrett takes Denver’s tribute to heart, as well he should, he has mastered the art of having fun while doing something serious.
James tells stories of John Denver lore that are both knowledgeable and interesting. John Denver had a lot of personal charisma and so does James Garrett. Garrett is the right man for the job.
James Garrett does John Denver just as John Denver would do John Denver. If you can understand that one statement, you understand the show.
The people he has on stage with him are multi-talented individuals who are certainly leaders in their respective musical fields.
Randy Plummer, who has been performing in Branson almost from the beginning of Branson plays slap bass and sings gospel.
Jim Glasby an award winning National Dobro Champion and Texas champion flattop player adds a lot of humor and great music to the show.
Rick Quincey plays anything with strings including a hammer dulcimer. Rick adds a lot of personality and good solid music to the mix.
Once in a while, Paul Bluto, owner of the Imax Complex, sings a song or recites a poem thereby adding a special touch of humanism.
I commented to Roy Clark one day that I thought the people he had in his show were just as good as he was. Roy said, “That’s not true at all. They are all better than I am, but my, my, don’t they make me look good.”
James Garrett is smart enough to realize what Roy knew. If you surround yourself with the finest musicians you can possibly find, they are not only going to make you look pretty darned good, but you will wind up with a winner of a show. Well, he does and he did……
He also, like Roy, does not take himself seriously. He is pretty much what-you-see-is-what-you-get. He is comfortable with himself; therefore the audience is comfortable with him. That is a good thing.
I am sure John Denver is looking down on the Little Opry Theater with that wide grin of his, nodding his head and saying job well done my friend.
I say, James Garrett, you took me by surprise with the fun, laughter and John Denver in your show. I applaud you.

A tribute to John Denver
Imax Little Opry Theater
Since I was a child, John Denver's music has always been a part of the household. Both my mother and father were big John Denver fans. So I became very familiar with John's music and his songs. So no surprise that I've always gravitated towards John Denver's music in my older years. Putting his songs in to my mix CD's and singing along. The first year James Garrett began his "Tribute to John Denver" I visited the show and loved it immediately. James Garrett has a very heartfelt and sincere tribute to his friend John Denver. The man really loves the music and has so many stories that he will tell at the show about John Denver. Being that I work in the Tourism industry and sell vacation packages, hotels and show tickets, it is always important to see the shows and know what our customers can expect. So again, I saw the Tribute to John Denver the other day. It just never gets old. I would say that is truly part of why I feel this show should be best morning show in Branson. The cast puts on a fun and spontaneous show filled with comical moments, phenomenal talent, ability, and inspiring music. It is always fun to watch the crowd get involved. Example: They were singing Grandma's Feather bed and my seat was on the center aisle. I had a couple kids next to me and either their parents or grandparents with them. The kids where bouncing around and so were the parents. It was funny, but I know they were feeding off of Randy Plummer. I must admit there are more people attending the show this year. I constantly recommend the show to our customers due to its wide appeal. I feel it is an uplifting show that leaves you feeling a certain smile in your heart. The guys and girls on stage are very sincere and down to earth. You feel right at home, as if in the living room or garage. I notice how they will make everyone smile without even trying. There was a moment when James Garrett's guitar came unplugged and he just made a big joke out of it and everyone in the theater laughed. Something about the next thing to fall out would be his hair. Just random spontaneous comedy at times. It is just a truly unique experience for a Branson show. I have seen a lot and really enjoy many of the shows. A tribute to John Denver just has a special essence about it. It combines all of the elements that make a good show, but possesses a special bond with the audience that makes it unique. I send customers to many shows and always try to get feedback about the shows and attractions. I can honestly tell you that I have had excellent or better reviews every time I ask about the Tribute to John Denver show. I have had people tell me that they do not even need to see another show because the John Denver Tribute Show made their vacation. It is just a magical show and after seeing it again this year, I continue to believe that James Garrett's "Tribute to John Denver" certainly is worthy and deserves morning show of the year. I can assure you I have a few customers that would also support that. In closing I want to pay tribute to the other members of the show. I am sorry, but I do not know all their names, but they sure are talented. Jim Glaspy was the guy on the banjo and my goodness!! I had not seen him before. Man that guy is good!! Randy Plummer, whom I have seen before is a true sunshine, happy go lucky, talent that has roots back to Branson's Musical beginning. If you have ever watched someone so happy that you can't help but become happy yourself, you know the type of person Randy Plummer is. This show is a blessing to all those that see it, including myself. So my vote is for "A tribute to John Denver" for Branson's best morning show.

John Denver Tribute
Little Opry Theater
I attended the Tribute to John Denver show this morning and I loved it. I've seen the show several times in the past and it's always different. Today, Randy Plummer was missing from the lineup but they had a pretty young gal on the bass. Her name is Kelly Black and she did a great job covering for Randy. My favorite song has always been "Back Home Again" and it is usually the first song as it was today. I always enjoy the "gems" as James Garrett calls them, the songs that most people would not recognize. James says he thinks these songs are as good as the hits. I agree with him. Especially the western songs, "Whispering Jessi" and "Me and My Uncle". There was a couple in the audience who had a John Denver song called "Follow Me" sung at their wedding. James sang that song early in the show not knowing that they were hoping to hear it. They seemed really excited the song was performed.
Jim Glaspy is a perfect compliment for James's smooth finger picking style of playing. Jim plays four instruments in the show guitar, dobro, banjo and bass. He is great on every one of them. His wife, Karina, was with the group today to sing harmony. She was great as well. The show is a perfect mix of great John Denver tunes, gospel, comedy, and bluegrass. What a way to start the day. I can't imagine a better morning show!

James Garret's "Tribute to John Denver"
IMAX Theater
My sister and I carried our Mother to Branson in honor of her 81st birthday. The highlight of the trip was James Garret's show "A Tribute to John Denver". The theater setting was easily assessable and we were welcomed by warm and friendly staff.
James sings from his heart and the show is very personable. He does not look like John Denver nor does he try to imitate him, but the stories and music history make each song very sincere. I think John Denver would be proud and honored!
He is complimented by Jim and Karina Glaspy. Jim plays several instruments including the banjo and dobro. He has also received awards for his remarkable performances. Vocalist Karina likewise is exceptionally talented and has an absolutely beautiful voice.
We are planning future visits to Branson and James Garret's "Tribute to John Denver" will definitely be #1 on our agenda.

Tribute to John Denver
IMAX /Little Opry Theater
The Tribute to John Denver show is one of the very best shows in Branson. The musicians and staff are friendly from the minute you walk in the door until you leave. The high quality of music and talent is complemented by the personal real life experiences this artist shared with the late John Denver. There is just enough blend of gospel and a show of appreciation to our Veterans to balance everything but not be too overwhelming. The musical talent and vocals are pure and true. This show stands out from the rest because of the personal interest and stories that you hear and the genuineness you feel from Mr. Garrett. These people are very gifted in their abilities to make you want to see and hear more. We also saw the Tribute to George Strait Show by the same artist, James Garrett, and it was just as good. You feel like you are with friends and family and they are so glad to see you and share their true love of what they are doing. It is such a warm and entertaining show it is over before you realize it. I will recommend this to everyone I know. The trip from Texas was worth every mile to see this show.

James Garrett's Tribute to John Denver
Imax Little Opry Theater
It was interesting to hear and observe the John Denver Tribute Show when Steve Weisberg was performing with James. They made an outstanding duo. James knew and played all the music that Steve had written for John. Even though James was excited about Steve playing and singing with him, he masterfully incorporated Steve into the mood and atmosphere of the theater.
To see two professional musicians who had not practiced together perform off each other's talent was an amazing experience. Both were excited to be performing together.
When new people perform with James, I am mesmerized to see how easily he adapts to their personalities, talents, and stage presence. He makes everyone feel relaxed and comfortable. It is an enjoyable experience.
I've seen most of the shows in Branson. To me, James has the best all around entertainment and should receive the Best Morning Show Award for the third time in a row!

John Denver Tribute
Little Opry Theater
When I first saw the show in 2008 it was almost like seeing John Denver himself. James knew John and shares personal stories throughout the show. I've been back to Branson several times this year and I see a different show every time. This day was very special because John's lead guitar player, Steve Weisberg was sharing the stage with James and his band. It was amazing to hear Steve playing the guitar just as he played it on John's records. It was also interesting to hear Steve tell the audience how great he thought James's band was. Steve also shared some great stories of his own. He told the story of how John wanted a Cowboy song for his Christmas album. Steve told John he had a song he had been working on. Turns out John had been working on a cowboy song as well. John told Steve that whoever finished their song first would get his song on the album. Steve won the contest and he and John went to the studio and completed the song in one take with Steve on guitar and John on vocals. The song is called "Christmas For Cowboys", one of my favorites.
I loved and adored John Denver. I saw him many times in concert and belonged to his fan club but was never lucky enough to meet him. James is a beautiful singer, talented guitar player and entertainer. Maybe he can't write a song in ten minutes, as he said John was able to do, but you can definitely feel John's spirit throughout this show. With Steve Weisberg in the mix it was almost like seeing John again.
James also has great band members to back him. Jim Glaspy is great on everything from guitar, dobro to banjo. Randy Plummer, smiling Randy Plummer as James calls him, is equally talented on the bass. James is kind enough to inform his fans when something special is going on in his show. Not only the best morning show, but the best show period.

James Garrett's Tribute to John Denver
Imax Little Opry Theater
I thought I had already seen the absolute best performances of James Garrett's Tribute to John Denver, that is until the day Erma Davis, John's mother, came to town! At the age of 87 years "young", she traveled all the way from her home in Denver, Colorado specifically to attend James' show. It's amazing how his talent has reached across the United States and beyond.
Naturally, it was an unforgettable experience for me to meet the mother of one of the most popular singer/songwriters of all time. However, it also thrilled me to have the privilege of observing Erma's reaction to James' stellar performance of her beloved son's songs such as her personal favorite, "Back Home Again", "Annie's Song", and "Rocky Mountain High". She appeared to be mesmerized by every word sung and every note played. She smiled the entire time and clearly appreciated James' sincere and heartfelt tribute to John.
One would think that James would have been nervous to sing to the mother of his lifetime hero. If he was, it certainly was not apparent. He always gets so caught up in the music and his dedication to playing each song just as John would have, that he sometimes forgets where he is!
The intimacy of the Little Opry Theater allows for interaction between the performers and the audience. Imagine James' delight when during the show, he and Erma were able to converse about some of his personal experiences with John.
You just never know who you might get to rub shoulders with at James' show. On June 15th, 16th, and 17th of this year, Steve Weisberg, John's lead guitarist appeared on stage. What a combination of talent! Being the outstanding musicians that they both are, the audience was completely captivated by their perfect rendition of John's songs. After the show, Steve highly complimented James by stating that he had created an atmosphere of "magic".
James and his extremely talented musicians and vocalists possess the ability to provide the best entertainment in Branson. The culmination of the show, the location, the theater, the owners, and the staff allows for a pleasurable and unforgettable experience that has you coming back for more! I wholeheartedly vote for this show to receive the Best Morning Show Award.

James Garrett's Tribute to John Denver
Imax Little Opry Theater
I attended James Garrett's Tribute to John Denver on September 16, 2009. I have seen the show numerous times. Each time, I'm amazed at how the audience responds to the music and James' personality. He has the magic touch that pulls people into the intimacy of the theater.
James has an amazing voice and talent, but beyond that, he takes you into the emotions of John's music. When you attend a performance, be prepared to experience the gamut of your emotions.
I was privileged to be present when John's mother, Erma, attended. James' professionalism was evident from beginning to end. There was no evidence of him being tense. He simply enjoyed performing for her. I watched Erma's reaction to his singing. It was obvious that she thoroughly enjoyed each and every song. She and James had a wonderful rapport throughout the show.
Fantastic!

James Garrett's presentation of John Denver songs and stories is one of the best I've ever seen. From his rendition of the songs almost as John Denver played them, note for note, to his heartwarming stories about John Denver, his show was the best we saw in Branson this trip. A small, intimate theater with no bad seating, it was like being in the living room with John Denver himself. I definitely recommend this show, as it demonstrates that a show doesn't have to be a large production with laser lights and theatrical smoke to impress the crowd. The ticket price was very reasonable, a bargain in fact, for the quality of this show. Although James' band members were showcased at various times during the show (and they were very talented), I do wish the show would have had more John Denver content. This show leaves you wanting more!

Tribute to John Denver
Little Opry Theater
I saw the John Denver Tribute Show on September 16th, 2009. What a treat to see Erma Deutchendorf, john Denver's mother at the show. She sat on the second row and seemed to love every minute of the show, as did the rest of the audience. James Garrett, star of the show, seemed slightly nervous performing the first number in front of John's mother, but he quickly moved into a comfortable and laid back aura which set the tone for the rest of the show. Garrett called Mrs. Deutchendorf to the stage and presented her with a corsage and then gave the audience a photo opportunity. The whole audience seemed to be in awe during the show, not only getting to meet John's mother but witnessing the level of talent that is in the John Denver Tribute show. James Garrett, along with cast members, Randy Plummer, Jim Glaspy, Rick Quincy, and C.J. Newsome (and lets not forget the Imax owner who sings regularly on the show) are incredible gifted musicians and singers. The John Denver Tribute show makes the audience feel like family. It's no wonder they won Best Morning Show two years in a row. I believe we should make it three years in a row!

Tribute to John Denver
IMAX
Being the skeptical person I am, my sister had to persuade me to go see the John Denver Tribute show in Branson. I came away being a less skeptical person that day. Wow! I knew John Denver‚s music, but now I‚m a FAN of not only John‚s music but of James Garrett. Aside from being a great musician and performer with the ability to put together great musicians (Jim Glaspy, Randy Plummer, Rick Quincy) and vocalists (Karina Glaspy and CJ Newsom), he is personable, approachable, and genuine in his love of Denver‚s music . I was also impressed with the variety of the show and how James allows the other performers to shine. They sincerely appear to love performing together; playing off of each other to make the show a spontaneous adventure. There are other entertaining shows in Branson, but this one stands out as a must see and one that deserves any and every award it receives.

Rocky Mountain High-Tribute to John Denver
IMAX
Every time I visit Branson, I go see the Rocky Mountain High, Tribute to John Denver show at the IMAX Theater. The Little Opry Theater is the perfect place for John Denver‚s music and James Garrett is the perfect person to sing it. He has a charming way of interacting with the audience, taking requests for music and answering cell phones when they ring. I go not only because I love John Denver‚s music but because James and his band honor Denver‚s memory in a spectacular way with their music along with James‚ personal stories about John. Garrett is a phenomenal musician and vocalist and is not afraid of sharing the stage with Jim Glaspy‚s banjo and dobro, Randy Plummer‚s gospel music, and Rick Quincy‚s dulcimer playing. The vocals of C.J. Newsom and Karina Glaspy round out the show making it, in my opinion the Best show in Branson˜and certainly the Best Morning Show, evidenced by the past two years‚ awards.

James Garrett puts on an AWESOME show. James is very entertaining and touches the hearts of his audience. He has a tremendous voice, is very gifted with his guitars and is well complimented by the rest of the team. Randy Plummer certainly adds to the show with his bass, his gospel songs and his big smile. Jim Glaspy is wonderful and contributes so much to the show with his musical talent picking the banjo, dobro and guitar. Randy Quicy rounds off the team with his quite demeanor playing the dulcimer and guitar. What an entergetic talented team. C.J. Newsom and Karina Glaspy add an extra dimenison with their vocals and songs.
I have recommended the Tribute to John Denver to all my friends!! This is defintely the BEST SHOW in BRANSON. I will continue to enjoy the music and entertainment through the CD's I brought back! My favorite, outside of the John Denver songs, is James singing "Praise His Name."
We had and enjoyable dinner at McFarland's in the IMAX with great home cooking, good service and a friendly atmosphere.
Overall it was an unforgettable experience!!

Tribute to John Denver
IMAX, Little Opry Theater
Every time I see the Tribute to John Denver show, there is something new to enjoy. On this day, the "something new" was particularly special. John Denver‚s mother, Erma was in attendance. James Garrett has put together the best band in Branson to pay tribute to John Denver‚s music and has in the past showcased individuals who played with John in the past such as Steve Weisberg and Jim Connor. While those days were special, it was evident that having John‚s mother in the audience was an experience that will be difficult to improve on. James sang her son‚s favorite song, Back Home Again. The intimacy of the Little Opry Theater provided the perfect venue for her to speak out and tell James that fact as well as how she had to stop the car the first time she heard that song on the radio because she was crying so hard. The audience loved it. Erma said she enjoyed every minute of the show, noticeably clapping along to favorites like "Grandma‚s Feather Bed" and "Country Roads". I attended a tribute to John Denver at Red Rocks Amphitheater in Colorado in June and this show in Branson Missouri is without question the better show, not only for the special way that the music of John Denver is performed, but for the variety the show provides to those who might not be die-hard John Denver fans. Jim Gaspy‚s banjo and dobro playing is remarkable, the vocals of Corina Glaspy and C.J. Newsom are outstanding and the gospel music of Randy Plummer adds a special element to the show. James Garrett does not look like or try to be like John Denver˜ he shares personal stories that add heart and soul to the show. This show is extraordinarily entertaining and should not be missed. Hands down, the Tribute to John Denver show deserves Best Morning Show in Branson, if not the BEST show in Branson!

Tribute to John Denver
Lil Opry Theatre
What do you think of when you hear 'Sunshine on my shoulder'? A Tribute To John Denver at 10 am in the Lil Opry Theatre within the IMAX building. You are in for quite a treat. Producer and lead guitarist, James Garrett, leads you down country roads to rocky mountain high with nimble fingers and a voice that will send you soaring on the wings of eagles. Sprinkled in between songs James whisks you along memory lane weaving stories of John's life from times he spent in his company. But that is not all. The band boasts of incredible talent and humor through Randy Plummer and Jim and Karina Glaspy. Their gifts of song and expertise will carry you away. As if this is not enough, James invites guest singers to join the fun. And oftentimes there are children in the audience whom he finds ways to include and bring onstage encouraging them in their interests.
During the intermission and after the show you have an oppotunity to speak with the cast unlike most shows. The 200 seat theatre itself lends to the cozy atmosphere of jamming with the band as if you were in the living room singing along and sharing stories. It also allows for greater interaction with the band, and it is like being part of a family. It is a show that will leave you wanting to come back for more. I know because I do as often as I can, and while I have other shows I like to experience, this one is a must every time I come visit.

A Tribute to John Denver
Little Opry Theatre, IMAX
James Garrett's reputation for magnificently honoring the memory of John Denver made its way to Colorado where John's mother, Erma, lives. On Wednesday, September 16th, she honored James by attending his "A Tribute to John Denver" in the little Opry Theatre at Branson‚s IMAX. Erma is a petite, gracious, beautiful 87 year-old. As with other guests, James magically included her as an integral part of the show. After opening the show with "Rocky Mountain High" and "Leaving on a Jet Plane", James had his sister, Lynn, accompany Erma to the stage where he introduced her to the audience and had Lynn pin a rose corsage on her.
James said that looking at Erma in the audience was like looking at John. The smile, the sweetness, the spirit essence of John sparkled through his mother. Like everyone in the audience, Erma was having a wonderful time listening to James sing John Denver. We found out that "Back Home Again" is her favorite song, When James told the audience John's real name was Henry John Deutschendorf, Erma added, "Jr." She also wanted to make sure the audience knew John wrote "Annie's Song" in less than 15 minutes.
This was an amazing show. A Tribute to John Denver is always an amazing show, but to have John's mother in the audience just took it over the top. James loves telling stories about John, and Erma confirmed the accuracy and truth of many stories. She also heard delightful tales of John she had never heard before. Erma even told James she has a picture of John and James on her kitchen counter! I've written before that no two shows are ever the same. James loves sharing the spotlight with his band members and he loves sharing the stage with anyone associated with John. This show is totally unique and wonderful.
I agree with Erma, when she was asked after the show what she thought, "It was great! I loved every bit of it!"

A Tribute to John Denver
Little Opry Theatre in the IMAX
My friend and I seem to always make our way back to the Little Opry Theatre inside the IMAX to see "A Tribute to John Denver." This show is spectacular everytime we see it. We started making Branson our "getaway place." I have seen the show at least 4 times in 2009. James Garrett and his band have a way of making the audience feel right at home. I love the fact that he includes children in his show. At one of his shows, he heard a child in the audience and invited her to come up on stage with him. She sang a piece from "Sunshine on My Shoulder." It was just precious. Another had her picture taken with him and her little Hannah Montana guitar.
I love the jokes and stories that James and his band share on stage. There is something about the way James presents his jokes that just makes us laugh. I also enjoy watching and listening to the other members in the band. James and Jim seem to have a very special connection. It just shows when they are together on stage. Nobody can beat "The Poor Boy Boogie" with Randy's eefing. It is just hilarious.
As James is singing, I look through the audience and I see so many smiles and people singing along and having a good time.
I like the fact that James will take requests for John Denver songs after intermission. James sings the songs just as I remember them. He does a superior job and it sure brings back many memories.
The band will also meet you out in the "lobby area" to shake your hand and talk to you during intermission and after the show. I wanted a picture and they were more than happy to help out. The gal who takes the tickets offered to take the picture. She seems very personable and I had a nice conversation with her as well.
Everyone is just so friendly. It really makes you feel good.
You can tell that James loves what he does. I hope that the "Tribute to John Denver" will be around for many years to come.

Tribute to John Denver
IMAX Little Theatre
Last year when I visited my family in Missouri, they insisted I go see the Tribute to John Denver Show. This year when I visited my family in Missouri, I insisted we go see the show!! I had just as much fun this year as last year. James Garrett is a great talent both vocally and on the guitar. I love the way he sings "Rocky Mountain High", "Country Roads", "Sunshine on My Shoulders", "Annie‚s Song", and many more. I‚ve never been much for bluegrass, but Jim Glaspy is amazing on the banjo and Dobro and guitar. I actually liked the bluegrass song he sang. Randy Plummer on the bass sang gospel and continues to smile throughout the whole show. A year later and he‚s still smiling!
My nephews began to wonder if my real reason for returning to Branson was more to see the show than visit with them! I remember going to a couple of John Denver concerts and seeing people of all ages there. James Garrett‚s Tribute is also appropriate for all ages. He honors everyone in the audience, including children and veterans.
I strongly recommend this show. It will bring back old memories and create new ones. You‚ll love it! I do!

Tribute to John Denver
IMAX
Since John Denver has always been a favorite of mine and I'd heard good things about the Rocky Mountain High tribute show, we made a point of getting tickets for the show when we visited Branson for my mother's 88th birthday in May. The theater feels comfortable and kind of cozy and you can see and hear well from any of the seats. The show itself exceeded my expectations since not only does James Garrett have a wonderful voice, his personal recollections of John Denver gave the songs an especially poignant touch. He and the members of the band connect with the audience and by the time you leave, you feel like you've had a great visit with friends. We'll be in Branson again next May with a group and I've already told them this is a "must see" show.

The best family show in Branson. James is a show stopper, the best music and atmosphere. He didn't try to imitate John Denver but brought a deep personal tribute to one of my favorite artist. Very child friendly,I will go back!
If you are looking for fun and great music this show does not cut corners. You want to go back for more. Ever show is unique and from the heart, lots of improv. It's my granddaugther's favorite(she's four) and James stole her heart (ok the candy didn't hurt). James brings all the children up on stage for some fun and a treat.
Awesome talent and varity, I loved the diversty of music and comedy.
We went to see the John Denver revue and went back to see the George Strait show which had the same quality show and energy! Lots of fun!

My wife and I have been coming to Branson since the mid 70's and have seen most of the shows. We are always interested to see something new and were certainly please we went to A Trubute To John Denver. This theater is very intimate and much smaller than most. We sat in the second row and were just a few feet from the stage. The first row could put their feet on the stage! The sound quality is still great and not overpowering. James and the band put on a great show and truely seem to enjoy what they are doing. James seems to have a true respect and appreciation for the music of John Denver along with a person knowlege of him. The stories he tells about the songs add new reference points and additional insight about the meanings. This is a great show that I would recommend for anybody to see no matter their age, you won't be sorry.

John Denver Tribute
Little Opry Theater
I went to Branson for the first time in 2008 because my parents had been going to Branson for over 20 years. I went because they told me about the John Denver Tribute show. I've loved John's music since High School. The show was amazing! James has a gift just as John did. I returned in 2009 just to see the show again. I enjoy the personal stories James shares about John. He shared some different stories this time. I enjoyed the story about the old Gibson guitar John's Grandmother gave him when he was 12. It was the guitar John learned to play on. The other musicians really add to the show as well. Jim glaspy is great on the dobro, banjo and guitar. My favorite songs were the "gems", songs that never made it as hits. I especially liked Poems Prayers and Promises. I also saw James sing in his George Strait show. It's amazing as well. The John Denver show should be Branson's best morning show for 2009.

A Tribute to John Denver
Little Opry Theater, IMAX Complex
I have written in the past about James Garrett's "A Tribute to John Denver" show in the Little Opry Theatre at Branson's IMAX Entertainment Complex. James honors the memory of his friend, John Denver, 6 days a week, February through mid-December. For three days in June, Steve Weisberg, John's original lead guitarist, joined James on stage. Watching and listening to Steve on stage was a remarkable experience.
One of the many reasons people return to see the show over and over again is because James never uses a script or play list, and he lets the audience dictate the second half of the show with requests. He also loves to share the stage with his friends. "A Tribute to John Denver" is performed in a small, intimate, 208-seat theater. James enjoys engaging the audience and keeping the atmosphere relaxed, comfortable and friendly. Steve called the theater "Magic" and fit in perfectly with the band and flow of the show. The fact that Steve and James had never rehearsed is powerful proof that these are two extraordinarily talented professionals with a detailed knowledge and love of John's music.
James loves to tell stories about John and his songs. Steve delighted the audiences with his own personal stories of John. His sense of humor and his magnificent guitar playing made it obvious why John Denver had him in his band. James is known for having the longest two-hour show in Branson because he seldom finishes in less than 2 1/2 hours. Each day Steve performed, the show went over 3 hours, and no one got up to leave! One of the many highlights of the show was hearing Steve sing "Christmas for Cowboys", which he wrote for John and is on John's Rocky Mountain Christmas album.
James Garrett loves to sing John Denver songs, and he is quite an accomplished guitar player. He surrounds himself with outstanding musicians: Randy Plummer, Jim Glaspy, Rick Quincy, and vocalist C.J. Newsom. Add Steve Weisberg to this group, and WOW! What a treat for any John Denver fan. Actually, non-John Denver fans were in awe, also. It was nearly impossible to leave the theater a non-fan!
James Garrett‚s willingness to share the stage with others is to be admired. That members of John Denver‚s band enjoy his tribute enough to want to perform, is more proof that James Garrett‚s "A Tribute to John Denver" is deserving of "The Best Morning Show in Branson."

John Denver Tribute
Little Opry Theater
I saw the John Denver Tribute Show at the Little Opry Theater and loved the music and small theater. Everyone in the cast was awesome. James, along with cast members Randy Plummer and Jim Glaspy are all incredibly talented musicians. CJ Newsome is also a tremendous talent who also yodels. The small theater is an added bonus since the cast will actually allow the audience members to ask questions and converse with them during the show. I have NEVER seen another show that made you feel like family. You can actually understand the words that are sung and even sing along which James invited the audience to do numerous times. This is the NUMBER ONE SHOW IN BRANSON, hands down!

I saw the John Denver Tribute Show and was blown away by the incredible talent of the cast. James Garrett is an exceptionallly gifted musician and singer as are Randy Plummer who plays the bass and Jim Glaspy who plays the banjo, flat top guitar and dobro. The small theater gives the illusion of being in someone's living room, enjoying family time together. The cast becomes family to their audience and makes each one feel that way. I felt like I was home and enjoyed every moment of not only the music, but stories of John Denver's life from someone who knew him. I will be going to this show over and over again.

Rocky Mountain High, A Tribute to John Denver
Imax Little Opry Theater
I vote for James Garrett's, "A Tribute to John Denver", to receive Best Morning Show. The show has won this award for the last two years and it just keeps getting better.
The seating in the theater is very comfortable. It provides a "living room" type atmosphere that allows up close and personal interaction with the performers. They enable everyone to sit back, relax, and enjoy between two and three hours of the best entertainment I've ever experienced.
James sang many of John Denver's well-known songs such as "Annie's Song", "Country Roads", and "Some Days Are Diamonds". The ones that I liked the best were some "gems" that many people had never heard before. "Whispering Jessie" and "Me and My Uncle" were two of my favorites.
James was able to spend some time with John Denver and related some stories about him that let the audience know what a loving and giving person he was. Often people come to the show that knew John or someone close to him. These accounts, often funny, really add to the performance.
Whenever children attend the show, James always recognizes them and asks them to come to the stage to receive a gift. This makes the children feel special and enjoy themselves even if they're too young to be John Denver fans!
Over the past two and one-half years, I have seen this show around 75 times. Needless to say, it has been well worth it every time. I have never seen the same show twice because there is not a rigid script. This makes it spontaneous and easy to attend 75 times!
James and his band have the best talent I've ever had the pleasure to listen to. It's very apparent they enjoy what they do. So much talent is surprising to find in a small theater like the Imax Little Opry Theater. I especially like the way they give credit to God for their talent and they always recognize the veterans.
It's apparent that this group has worked extremely hard to maintain success and build a great reputation. I can easily say that this is the best show in Branson. I invite everyone to come and experience this wonderful show first hand. You won't be disappointed!

A Tribute to John Denver
Little Opry Theatre, IMAX
James Garrett's "A Tribute to John Denver" has been awarded BransonCritic.com's Best Morning Show two years in a row. It's easy to see why. This show is consistently wonderful! James doesn't try to sound like John Denver and he certainly doesn't look like John. He does honor John with his own compelling voice by singing John's songs with a passion that connects with the audiences. This show is definitely a must see in Branson and this show is definitely deserving of being awarded "Best Morning Show in Branson" again.
People return over and over again to see this show. I personally have seen it numerous times. James says it's John's music that draws visitors back to his show. I think that's true, but, without a doubt, it is also the presentation of John's music by James Garrett that charms the audiences. I also saw John Denver in concert numerous times and John had, and James has, that something, that quality, which radiates out and creates magic.
In the cozy, relaxed setting of The Little Opry Theater, James will mesmerize you by singing the known and unknown songs performed by John. During the first half of the show, he likes to introduce the audience to "gems"; songs they might not have heard. James once said he is an archeologist on John's music and likes to dig up songs audiences might not be familiar with because they are just as good as the hits. "Whispering Jesse" and "Me and My Uncle" are two of my favorites. During the second half of the show, he will take requests, and time allowing, strive to do all the songs requested. "Rocky Mountain High", "Country Roads", "Sunshine on My Shoulders", "Calypso" and "Annie's Song", are just a few of the songs you'll hear.
James surrounds himself with talented musicians. He calls them the smallest band in Branson. Randy Plummer, a "Branson Legend", plays bass, and performs gospel. You will find yourself automatically smiling as you watch and listen to Randy. Jim Glaspy is a National Dobro Champion and Texas State Flat Pick Champion. And, his banjo on "Grandma's Feather Bed" and "Mathew" leave you wanting more! Jim's background is bluegrass, and you'll get a sampling of his amazing bluegrass talent. Rick Quincy plays hammered dulcimer, harmonica, mandolin and guitar. All three sing harmony with James. C.J. Newsom sings a duet with James on "Fly Away" and delights the audience with a gospel song and Patsy Montana's "Cowboy Sweetheart". James loves to showcase the talents of his band members and the interaction of the band with James can make for some hilarious comedy. John Denver's songs with a variety of other music, make this show shine.
Also, because John and James were friends, James tells stories about John and the songs. He will also answer questions. It's totally delightful sitting in an audience where you feel comfortable talking to the entertainers on stage! James honors his audiences and loves introducing children and young people to the music of John Denver.
The personal atmosphere, the invitation to sing along, the soothing music, the casual, comfortable, no glitz approach, make this show the very best way to start your day. This show has been called the longest two hour show in Branson. You will be entertained and spellbound for two and a half hours. And, no two shows are ever the same. James does not use a script and the audience dictates the second half. John Denver fans and non-John Denver fans leave this show happy!
John Denver wrote in his song "On the Wings of a Dream", Though the singer is silent, there still is the truth of the song. How fortunate we are to have James Garrett keeping the truth of John's music alive.

John Denver Tribute Show
Imax Little Opry Theater
I vote for the John Denver Tribute Show by James Garrett to be the 2009 BEST MORNING SHOW. The music on the day I visited was top notch from beginning to end with a well-rehearsed feel yet, equally important; the show did not feel stiff or contrived. The cast (James, Randy & Jim) played their fine instruments superbly and left me only wanting more of their playing and singing. Kasi adds to the show with her beautiful voice and a feminine presence. During the show James asked the audience how many would stay if they played all of John Denver's songs...I got my hopes up for a minute that we might be able to spend HOURS listening to James and his musical friends play all of the songs (about 148?)...but alas, brought myself back to reality at the strum of the next chord, then sat back in the cozy Little Opry Theater seats to enjoy the next 2 hours of sweeeeet, sweeeet music. This show is enjoyable not only for the authentic music itself, but because the personality of James Garrett, and his easy way with his band members and the audience, is appealing and "real". There was no fakeness or showiness going on during this show and the audience can feel "at home" as James draws you in with his personal stories or with info. about John Denver's music - between songs. I appreciate that there was not too much talking between songs as well - it was a great balance. This was my 2nd visit to the show and I enjoyed seeing the ways James changed-up or tweaked the show for variety....though I liked it both times! He told us he reads the audience comment cards daily. That goes to show he is trying to deliver what his audience wants whenever he can, which makes for smart business. The audience feels even more included when James asks for their JD song requests after intermission. I'll keep visiting this show when I travel to Branson, as I know there will be a lot of fresh, fun, authentic vibes wrapped around the wonderful music and personalities of James and his talented band. This show is one of a kind and a good value at its current price level. Imax parking is plentiful and easy. This show should win 2009 BEST MORNING SHOW!

My husband and I have seen this show many times and have always enjoyed the show. In fact, my husband never a great John Denver fan thinks that James Garrett performs his songs better than John Denver himself. We always learn something different about John Denver at each show. His band (Randy and Rick) are also very good. CJ has an excellent voice. Rick's rendition of "This Ragged Flag" was outstanding and had me in tears. Randy does gospel music and has won awards locally for his talent. You can tell that they all thoroughly enjoy performing for an audience. This may be the smallest theater in Branson, but the show is one of the best. I have told everyone I meet at other theaters, at Silver Dollar City and while in Texas that they should not miss this show while in Branson. This show is one the the first I see when returning to Branson and one of the last I see before going to Texas for the winter. In other words, I think he and his band are EXCELLENT!

James does such a great job with John's music. My favorite parts are when he does solo acoustic pieces. I always request Rhymes and Reasons in the second half when he takes requests and again I was rewarded by his performance. But the others in his show are also wonderful talented musicians. Randy Plummers gospel, On My Fathers Side is now my favorite gospel song and I really like One of These Days which Randy wrote as well. Rick and Jim are amazing, and I love CJ's version of Three Wooden Crosses. I go to this show at least every couple weeks just to sit back, listen and unwind. If you like John's music you will truly apprciate James tribute to him.

Tribute to John Denver
IMAX, Little Opry Theater
There is a special place in my heart for John Denver‚s music and there is no other place I would rather hear it than the IMAX Theater, performed by James Garrett and his band in the Tribute to John Denver show. The intimate setting of the theater allows James and his band to make the audience feel the band is playing a "jam" session especially for them. James‚ stories about John make the show "real" and his vocal rendition of Denver‚s music is extraordinary. This is not just a showcase for John Denver‚s music˜the show appeals to a wide audience with a charming variety of entertainment. James share the stage with the banjo and dobro playing of Jim Glaspy, gospel music of Randy Plummer, vocals of C.J. Newsom and dulcimer playing of Rick Quincy. James has an amazing ability to hit the high notes of Rocky Mountain High and Calypso. When he harmonizes with C.J. on "Fly Away‚, you would think Olivia Newton John was there. By far, this show deserves its third award for Best Morning Show in Branson!

James Garrett does a great job with the John Denver tunes adding differant songs regularly. The second half he plays many of the audience requests. I have seen this show about 30 times in the last 2 years. This day James did 2 songs I hadn't heard him do before, Perhaps Love, and a cowboy song about a guy and his uncle. He did my favorite which I requested - Rhymes and Reasons. I also really enjoy Randy Plummer's gospel songs. James many stories of John really enhance the show and I love the small theatre. You feel that he is performing just for you and you could just as well be sitting in your living room. I think this show should be the best show, best singer and best morning show.

Tribute to John DEnver
I-max Little Opry
This show is very strong when the performers maintain their focus on John Denver, his music and some anecdotes about John and his way of doing things. The show falters a bit when Randy Plummer does one of his gospel tunes or Rick Quincy performs on his hand-made hammer dulcimer. These men are consummate professionals, among the very best, but this is not what the show is about. These performances do give Mr Garrett a chance to go backstage for a brief rest; perhaps that is why they are in the show.
Mr. Garrett obviously has known John Denver very well. He sings many Denver songs - both the well-known recorded hits and some unrecorded "gems". He tells several stories about John and the amusing things he did, even when John was an international celebrity. The show was well worth the admission price and this viewer believes it is, indeed, worthy of a "best" award.
There is no comedy aspect to the Tribute show.
The Little Opry Theater inside the I-max is also a gem. It is easy to overlook on a visitor's first visit to Branson. Just 250 seats means that every person is within "spittin'" distance of the stage and the performers. There were a total of eight different shows presented there when we visited in March.

James Garrett and the John Denver Tribute Show is truly a unique breath of fresh air. If you attend most shows in Branson more than once, you see the same show, the same songs/routines, the same jokes. Not this oneJames and his band honor John Denver’s memory in a different and unique way for each show. It’s glaringly apparent James and his band possess a true appreciation and love for John Denver’s legacy to music. This is not a “Legends” showJames does not try to be John Denverhe honors his friend by keeping his music alive, not by trying to BE him. That is the beauty of the show. You will hear many of John’s hits like Rocky Mountain High, Calypso, Annie’s Song, Grandma’s Feather Bed, Follow Me, but you will also hear personal stories of James’ relationship with John. You will also be able to request your favorite song and the band will actually honor your request. If you have only a casual interest in John Denver’s music, you will still be entertained by Randy Plummer’s gospel music (and engaging smile) and Randy Rudd’s rendition of Roy Orbison and Jeanie Kendall. Add to that Rick Quincy’s unique dulcimer, Jim Glaspy’s fabulous fiddle, and Kaci Means & CJ Newsome’s beautiful vocals and you have a show that is a “must-see” in Branson. Tip: go on special days like James’ birthday and you’ll get a special treat! On any day, be prepared to be entertained longer than scheduledthey are having so much fun, they extend the show to accommodate the audience. Another plusthe “smallest theater in Branson”, the IMAX, is an exceptional venue for John Denver’s music. John is certainly there in spirit, and if he were there in body, he would be pleased with the choice.

I have been going to Branson for many years and have seen the best shows around. There is one show that is outstanding in many ways. That show is a Tribute to John Denver by James Garrett. The intimacy of the show brings you into its fold. The spontaneighty (Forgive my spelling) of the performers with interaction of the audience is very refreshing. There is an aura of nostaligia, that one feels at the beginning of the show. James leads you through many emotional times and through many emotional thoughts. I've already been back and enjoyed the show numerous times. I just keep enjoying it every time I come and each show is special and different. It amazes me how a show can have such a unique variety of differences in each show, even though it is still the same peformance. That is a testiment to the success and spontaneighty that never ends and makes this show so special. It is really an unexpected plus. I believe James's voice is better than John's. A must see if you want to experience the absolute best show in Branson. Morning or evening in my opinion.

When visiting family in Missouri, I was encouraged to attend the Tribute to John Denver Show at the IMAX Complex. In fact, I was told it was THE show to see. I was not disappointed. James Garrett was delightful. I saw John Denver in concert twice and felt his presence in the theater every time Mr. Garrett sang one of John's songs.
Each band member's unique talent provided a wonderful variety of entertainment to go along with the Denver music. Rick Quincy played "Sweet Georgia Brown" on the hammered dulcimer and Jim Galaspy is a spell-binding banjo and dobro player. Randy Plummer is the happiest bass player I've ever seen. These guys sing beautiful harmony on the John Denver songs. I also liked the way Mr. Garrett talked to the children in the audience. This is a very child-friendly show.
I had no intention of seeing shows when I visited Branson. This show, though, thrilled me. I heard all the popular Denver songs sung with heartfelt intensity. It was emotionally crunching, bringing back great memories of John, who was an amazing human being and musician. I felt totally involved in the show as opposed to just being sung at. I liked the way Mr. Garrett interacted with the audience: It's such a personal type of show.
I look forward to seeing this show again the next time I visit my family in Branson. I highly recommend this show.

How wonderful it is that James Garrett magnificently keeps the memory and spirit of John Denver alive. A Tribute to John Denver has a uniqueness about it. James has often said that “John’s music was simple and profound at the same time.” Those words precisely describe this amazing morning show.
Rick Quincy has returned to the show after injuries received in an auto accident kept him off stage for three months. It’s great to hear him playing “Sweet Georgia Brown” on the hammered dulcimer and singing Roger Miller’s “King of the Road.” Jim Glaspy, who took Rick’s place, has remained with the show. Jim’s ability to play the dobro, guitar, banjo, and sing harmony is beyond fantastic! His “Foggy Mountain Breakdown” will leave you in a state of awe.
Randy Plummer continues to smile and delight audiences with his inspired bass playing and inspiring gospel songs. Randy has been awarded Best Male Gospel Vocalist for Independent Gospel Music two years in a row. “On My Father’s Side” will touch your heart. Also, Randy is the best “Eeefer” in Branson!
Add James Garrett and you have the incredibly talented, smallest band in Branson! James will take you on a journey with a band that absolutely loves what they do. The positive energy generated by this show will remain with you for days. James Garrett’s presentation of the Denver songs is masterful and heartfelt. John smiles down from heaven every time James sings his songs.
You’ll hear the hits, such as “Rocky Mountain High”, “Country Roads”, “Sunshine on My Shoulders”, “Calypso”, “Annie’s Song”, and “Thank God I’m a Country Boy.” You’ll hear the “gems”, such as “Grandma’s Feather Bed”, “Follow Me”, and “Matthew”. Part of the charm of this show is you never know which other Denver songs you might hear because James takes requests the second half of the show. In the Little Opry Theatre you can even call out a question and James will answer it. And, if you forget to silence your cell phone and it rings during the show, James will ask to answer it, too. This is all part of the uniqueness of the show. It is never the same show twice! Plus, the element that sets this tribute apart is that James and John were friends and James loves to tell stories about John and his music. The charm of James Garrett, besides his terrific vocals and guitar playing, is that his sincerity is genuine: He honors his band mates, the audience, and John Denver.
James always has special guests in his shows. Randy Rudd, lead singer for the Sons of the Pioneers, does some Merle Haggard or Glen Campbell or Roy Orbison songs. You are really in for a treat if you see Randy and James perform the Kendall’s “Heaven’s Just a Sin Away.” CJ Newsome and Kasi Means add female vocals to the show. Paul Bluto, owner of Branson’s IMAX Complex, often joins the band on stage and sings an original composition “Don’t Should on Me.” Last month, Jim Connor, writer of “Grandma’s Feather Bed” who performed with John, was a guest in the show: A real treat for any John Denver fan.
This show is at 10:00 AM Monday through Saturday and has been called the “longest two hour show in Branson” because it usually last longer than two hours!
It’s obvious that I adore this show. The sincerity of the band members, the genuine affection for John Denver, the incredible variety of talent on stage, the brilliant and sensitive and honest performances by James Garrett, make this show my favorite, and in my opinion, the Best Morning Show in Branson.
If you are a John Denver fan, you need to see this show. If not, you need to see James Garrett perform, and I promise, you’ll become a James Garrett fan.

We loved every second of it! Each person that sang/played an instrument was so talented. We attended eight shows in Branson and this one was the best! Serendipitous! We found a gem in a place where there are shows after shows. This show didn't have a fancy stage, no dancers with glowing costumes (except for glowing teeth - very cute!), and no special effects. However, this show didn't need those fancy additions because those who loved John Denver and gospel music, will find that this tribute was the perfect. Our family was amazed with the talent that was on the stage. Jim Glaspy was the best Dobro and fiddle player we have seen in years and has a great sense of humor. Randy Plummer was incredibly impressive on the bass violin and the two female back-up singers were perfect. We weren't sure what to expect but our family laughed and sang for two full hours. This is one of the few shows that the audience is actually connected to the entertainers. James' voice was almost a perfect match to Mr. Denver's and the songs take you on a journey that explores freedom, the beauty of America, and a love for life. My teenage daughters weren't too excited about me dragging them to see John Denver anything. However, this show was their favorite! Thank you for making it fun for them and making them understand the value of John Denver's music. This show will lift your spirits! Thank you for such a wonderful performance and for taking us back to a time period that was carefree. What a wonderful treasure we found in Branson!
I've been a fan of John Denver's music since the 70's and was impressed with the show - every performer was very talented. James Garrett sang John's Songs beautifully - but more importantly related personal stories that made you laugh and cry. I could have listened to him sing every one of John's songs not just the "hits". Each of the performers sang other great songs from a variety of genres - every one of them were entertaining and/or inspirational! I plan on going again next time I am in Branson it was worth every penny - I wish I could find some of the recordings on ITUNES. James Garrett needs a WEBSITE of his own. Thanks!

James Garrett's Tribute to John Denver is one of the best shows in Branson. Not only can James Garrett sing, he's mighty fine to look at. His demeanor on stage is genuine and pleasing. He appears to truly enjoy what he is doing and strives to please his audience. The music is fabulous and the singing fantastic. This show needs to win not only a morning award but an over all best show award. We enjoyed the John Denver stories Mr. Garrett shared. Garrett did not try to be Denver. He brought out the essence of Denver. Garrett's show has humor and yet is thought provoking. We have vacationed at Branson for the last 5 years. We will do Garrett's show again next year. I suspect we will be hearing more from Garrett in the future.
