Comedian Lord Carrett is appearing at The Moe
Bandy Theater May 3-7 as part of the "Branson Comes Alive in 2005 Comedy
Tour".
Lord's
made 13 appearances on the nationally syndicated BOB & TOM RADIO
NETWORK, which is heard on Springfield's KXUS 97.3 FM, and he also had
his own
comedy special on XM SATELLITE RADIO last year.
His CD "UNSWEETENED" is in heavy rotation on both XM and SIRIUS
SATELLITE RADIO. All the exposure has led to UNSWEETENED being
re-released on the KOOL KAT imprint this year, and getting national
distribution. It's also playing on ALL COMEDY RADIO (syndicated in
150 markets,) and Lord was interviewed for ACR's COMEDY ISLE.
He's appeared on television ranging from Showtime to "A Dating Story,"
but his ability to work within the verbal confines of radio without
sacrificing any of the impact is what makes him in demand on radio. It's
a skill that led The Baltimore Sun describe him as: "A cross between Sid
Caesar and Sid Vicious."
He's managed the rare feat of headlining theaters without a sitcom or
major television exposure. Lord's pompadour and style of dress brings to
mind The Stray Cats, but his kinship to the 80's rockabilly kings goes
deeper than his retro look. He sees a lot of parallels between their
early struggles and his.
"The Stray Cats were trying to turn America onto AMERICAN music, and
people in The States said; 'I don't want to listen to that... that's my
FATHER'S music.' They had to go to England to make it, and started a
revival in the process!"
Lord's situation is similar... Inspired by the early radio comics like
W.C. Fields and Groucho Marx, and later masters like Jan Murray and
Johnny Carson, he's worked to craft an act, style, and persona that
could
stand alongside theirs: timeless, original, and most importantly,
joke-based, and he's pulled it off!
People used to play comedy albums at parties, and that's what people are
doing with UNSWEETENED! Lord's proven that well-written jokes, like
rockabilly--they
never go out of style. Now, if he can only make America realize that
their "father's comedy" was nothing to shake a stick at.
Lord Carrett with special guest Craig Allen at The Moe Bandy Theater,
